He holds a Magister Artium degree in Art History, Byzantine Studies, and Bavarian History from LMU Munich, and his master's thesis was published as "The Fan Culture at the Royal Bavarian Court Between 1850 and 1914". Ranftl has extensive experience in the auction business and international art market, specifically in the areas of furniture, objets d'art, and gilded bronze. He has also published and lectured on 18th-century ebenists and fans, and is currently the curator of the German Fan Museum (Barisch Foundation) in Bielefeld.

She has a long history of involvement in the international art market, with a specialty in early German porcelains, and has published and lectured extensively on early Meissen porcelain.
